The process and the tools that drive the CLEO experiment
For those of you folks who have wondering what CLEO stands for, you are going to be disappointed. It doesn't stand for anything (although I personally like Cornell's Legendary Event Observation). However, you can associate the name CLEO with a two-story tall detector that captures the collision events at CESR (Cornell Electron Storage Ring). In the ring, we shoot electrons one direction and positrons the other direction, and then collide them inside of the detector. What you see on the simulation page are actual results from the collisions, as close to real time as we can bring them to you. The image above is a computer model of the detector, and the image below is of the ring's position at Cornell (note that the ring, shown in white, is actually underground). You can take a virtual tour of either the detector or the ring.
